Project Information

Background

WERIC is an expansion of the University of Wyoming’s CMB Clearinghouse website created in 2003 by the Ruckelshaus Institute of Environment and Natural Resources and the Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center. This pilot project is the result of initial funding from the Bureau of Land Management and additional funding support from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The goal of WERIC is to address the continued need to share current energy-related data among agencies, industry, non-government organizations, and the public. WERIC includes Web-based educational information, maps and spatial data.

With additional support, WERIC and its Web-based information on research and development can be expanded and include additional searchable maps and spatial data as well as educational resources, news and events. The hope is that WERIC will become a model in Web-based energy information for other western states.

Project Scope

The project scope consists of the creation of a centralized Internet-based clearinghouse for textual, tabular, photographic, and spatially-referenced information pertaining to energy resource development and related management issues in Wyoming.

The ultimate goal of the project will be to create and maintain a single, up-to-date, and easy-to-use entry point for accessing data and information on all aspects of energy-related issues in Wyoming. Target audiences include resource management agencies, industry, non-governmental organizations, and the general public.
